Miles is captured by this universe’s Uncle Aaron and an evil variant of himself who became the Prowler. It turns out the machine sent him to the world the #42 radioactive spider came from because that’s the origin of his spider powers. Miles goes home and is shocked to find his Uncle Aaron is still alive, and he realizes he accidentally wound up in the wrong universe. Miles doesn’t believe all this and refuses to simply let his father die, so he escapes the Spider Society by using the machine that sends people back to their home dimension. Miguel says that if the canon breaks enough, it could have catastrophic consequences across the Spider-Verse. If the canon is broken, then it can cause irreparable damage to that universe, as we saw when Miles saved the police captain in Mumbattan and a black hole opened up. Then, to make matters worse, Miles learns that the canon dictates every Spidey must endure a specific tragedy, and that his father is destined to die once he becomes police captain. Spider-Man 2099 aka Miguel O’Hara (Oscar Isaac) explains that when you mess with the “canon,” then it causes mayhem in that universe, and he says Miles becoming Spider-Man is what caused the death of his world’s Spider-Man. That’s why the Spider Society didn’t want him as a member, as previously hinted at by Gwen. First, Miles learns that the #42 spider that bit him was from another universe and was supposed to be the origin of that world’s Spider-Man, which means he is an anomaly who was never supposed to become Spider-Man. The ending of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse focuses on Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) and Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), who find themselves in two very different universes.Īt the turning point in the movie, Miles is hit with a pair of shocking revelations.
